Conducting the sea... It’s just occurred to me that in two weeks time, I’ll be waking up on the Saturday ready to head off to London to run my first Renegade workshop. Really quite excited! May you have a weekend blessed with sunshine and sand in awkward crevices ...⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #takemetothebeach #beautifulbeaches #blueskies #theseathesea #morningslikethese #myweekendcandy #flashesofdelight #midlifebeachbody #mybeachbody #bopomidlife #kent #kingsgate #thanet #visitengland #exploreengland #igerskent #lifecoach #selfdevelopment #livewell #joyoflife #saturdaymorning #morningslikethese #fortyplusfashionista #overfortyblog #fabulousforties #lifeoverforty
Have you seen this month’s @BritishVogue ? I loved the previous editor @alexandrashulman (especially after sitting behind her at a do at the V&A once, breaking out in a sweat because my t-shirt came from Asda 😱). But new editor, @Edward_Enninful is amazing in the way he’s mixing old traditions with a bright new vibrance. Each issue has stepped in up in terms of creativity and social relevance. ⠀ ⠀ This month’s cover is a fabulous testament to diversity bringing together ‘the new models’, women of all colours, sizes, shapes and ages ....oh wait, no sorry, got that wrong. The oldest model is 26. So not age after all. I do love the cover but really, you’ve missed a trick, sir. We’re fighting to ensure no-one tells women that they must aspire to being white or straight or thin or male in order to be fashionable & beautiful. So why must we still aspire to youth? I thought we’d dealt with this decades ago when Isabella Rossellini was dumped from advertising (yes, you’ve guessed it) Lancôme anti-ageing cream for being too old & replaced by a virtually teenage Juliette Binoche. But guess who is back as the face of Lancôme? Rossellini .... There are so many beautiful women of all ages (take a look at @GreyModelAgency for just a few of them). And whilst Daphne Selfe is exquisite, perhaps you could have really gone for it with an older non-white model? I know we’re ready to see it, so why aren’t you giving it to us? Anyway, as Edward decided to leave us out, Lucie and I have done our own. The menopausal amongst us will appreciate the title of our magazine. Why not do your own too? #vogueleditionmature #showyoursupportshowyourface #vogue #VogueGameChangers #mature #positivebeauty #fortyplus #styleoverforty #myvoguecover #beboldbeautiful #justhewayyouare #faboverforty #fortyplusstyle #overfortybloggers #midlife #mumblog #mumsthatslay

I like a big one. ⠀ ⠀ You will always know when spring has truly sprung because my chocolate croissant obsession changes to an ice cream obsession. Carte d’Or do a lovely retro rum and raisin but strawberry will be my forever favourite. And today, where I live is meant to be the hottest place in the country (of course, cos I live here 😉) so I shall be getting my waffle cones out. What’s your favourite flavour? ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #englishspring #springtime #icecreamcone #giantstrawberry #bloom #springdays #pink #pinksweater #blondeandpink #eatwhatyouwant #bopo #loveyourcurves #stawberriesandcream
‘But then a sight she'd never seen made her jump and say⠀ “Look, a golden winged ship is passing my way"⠀ And it really didn't have to stop, it just kept on going⠀ And so castles made of sand⠀ Slips into the sea,⠀ Eventually...’⠀ ⠀ I rather think Jimi Hendrix nailed it with this description of Instagram 😉⠀ ⠀ I had a bit of an unplanned break but at least I used the time wisely (OK, so I watched the entire series of Ghost Wars with my son). I know I was bad and didn’t respond to many comments on my last post but I did read and think about them all. I found it really interesting how people seemed to feel more nervous about two subjects in particular; @womanandhome magazine have great articles on both this month that are what I had in mind. But also I’ve written a blog, freshly posted just now, if you’re interested in more on sex & money in midlife. ⠀ ⠀ Thank you everyone who checked up on me! And have a beautiful day xxx⠀ ⠀ #midlife #disruptingage #fortyplusblog #JimiHendrix #castlesmadeofsand #beach #blueskieshereatlast #beachblonde #beachplease #kingsgatebeach #igers_kent #visitkent #kingsgatecastle #discoverkent #prettykentcoast
The last in my ‘let’s talk about age’ posts & this is “let’s talk about ... sex”. I’ve often wondered, looking through acres of peonies & coffees & cute sweaters; where is the sexy on IG? On a female dominated platform, in the middle-aged corner (a time when women are supposed to be at peak sexuality) how have we de-sexed Instagram so entirely? Is it because we genuinely don’t find sex interesting? Or because we’re so immersed in a culture where ‘what is sexy’ is determined by a male dominated media so we don’t have the language or the imagery to discuss sex on our own terms? My own story is this: I was brought up without any emphasis on being a sexual woman. Being sexy meant you were a tart and disreputable. Somehow I ended up married with a baby, at which point my maternal hormones squashed any notion of embracing sexuality. Only when I reached my early forties was I in a position to finally decide what kind of sexual being I really am. And like everything to do with evolving self, it’s an ongoing journey. Obviously not I, nor anyone else, can say what you should be doing; sexuality is as individual and distinctive as a fingerprint. For example, whether you think this picture of me is sexy or not is based on your own idea of sexual attractiveness. But I felt sexy (despite the droop & swell of my older body). And I can tell you without any doubt that a life in harmony with your body, desires and fantasies is a darn sight better than a life unaware of or fighting them. Whilst conventional sex lives are not satisfying or even available to all of us, finding some way to be sexual is vital to our health and wellbeing. Especially in middle age. It literally keeps you feeling more vibrant and energetic. Even that bastion of the nice middle-aged lady Good Housekeeping Magazine has a double page spread this month on the benefits of menopausal sex. So let’s not drown out our essential nature in a load of posts about stuff we can buy. Let’s find a way to talk about sex that isn’t embarrassing or dangerous - let’s find our own sexy. (@mumsthatslay inspired stories highlight; I’m not the only one & also this is a really tricky post to find hashtags for 🤣)

Welcome to Lexiland

Lexiland is the home of the Renegade- any age, any lifestyle but always a maverick, always creative and always looking for how to get the best out of life.

My life… is the same old balancing act that all we mid-life and sandwich generation people face. Kids, dog, parents and, in our case, a husband with a chronic illness too. I don’t have any answers; but my plan is to throw a bit of art, adventure, fashion and fairy tale at the dark times. Lets see how that works out, shall we?
